Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word that describes Universal Life Force Energy, the energy which is all around us. Reiki, when activated and applied for the purposes of healing, addresses the body, mind and spirit. It accelerates the body’s natural ability to heal physical ailments and opens the mind and spirit to the causes of disease, disharmony and pain. Within this balance and understanding one can take responsibility for one’s own life and healing, and experience the joys of balanced wellness.

A Reiki treatment is a process whereby the Reiki practitioner channels universal life force energy to the recipient. A Reiki treatment is safe, non-intrusive and non-manipulative. It requires no particular belief system and is effective with all who are open to the energy. There are no substances applied to the body, and the recipient remains fully clothed. During a full Reiki treatment the practitioner directs healing energy to several areas of the body. While focus is given to the body’s major organs and energy centers (chakras), every cell of the body will benefit.

In addition to formal positions, Reiki can be applied to any part of the body that has been injured. Reiki works through clothing, bandages, and casts and can even be transmitted distantly. Reiki can relieve pain and acute symptoms quite rapidly while more chronic problems may require more extensive treatment. Length of treatment depends on the root cause of the problem and the amount of energy needed to revitalize and bring ailing body areas back into balance.

Reiki works in conjunction with and as an adjunct to medical and non-medical treatment and therapy. The experience of a Reiki treatment is usually a deep feeling of warmth, well-being and comfort. It is extremely effective in relieving the stresses of daily life.

A Reiki practitioner is a channel for the energy and is therefore not actually doing the healing. The recipient’s body determines the actual flow of energy as well as where and how the energy will be used in that body. The recipient’s willingness and acceptance determines the amount of Reiki received and the progress made in one’s own healing process.
